The Naya Raipur venue is often searched as Raipur Cricket Stadium. Its history is unusually compact: the ground was established in 2008, staged a first major game in 2010, entered franchise cricket in 2013, and became a men’s international venue in 2023. The stadium’s name honours Veer Narayan Singh, whom a Government of India release describes as a hero of the 1857 revolution.
ESPNcricinfo records 2008 as the venue’s establishment year. The stadium was developed at Sector 3, Parsada-3 in Naya Raipur and named for freedom fighter Veer Narayan Singh. Its North End, South End and floodlights gave the new ground a permanent multi-format venue framework.
Cricbuzz’s venue profile identifies a one-day match between the Canadian national team and Chhattisgarh as the stadium’s first major game. That 2010 fixture came before the ground had hosted the IPL or a senior men’s international and marks the start of its recorded match progression.
Delhi Daredevils used Raipur as a second home and won both 2013 matches at the venue. The first, on 28 April, ended with Delhi’s 164/5 defeating Pune Warriors India’s 149/4 by 15 runs. ESPNcricinfo’s report described the game as the association’s first event of that magnitude and recorded the preparation undertaken before it.
The next major tournament chapter came through the 2014 Champions League T20. Cricbuzz records eight matches at Raipur: all six qualifiers plus two group-stage games. This moved the ground beyond a two-match IPL stop and demonstrated its use across a concentrated tournament schedule.
The stadium’s first men’s international was India’s second ODI against New Zealand. India’s seamers reduced New Zealand to 15/5 and dismissed the visitors for 108. India reached 111/2 in 20.1 overs to win by eight wickets, while Mohammed Shami earned Player of the Match for 3/18.
Raipur’s first men’s T20I followed later that year. India made 174/9 and held Australia to 154/7 for a 20-run win. Axar Patel’s 3/16 earned Player of the Match, giving the venue verified ODI and T20I milestones within the same calendar year.
