The history of JSCA Cricket Stadium, Ranchi moves from Jharkhand cricket’s older Jamshedpur base and the Keenan Stadium dispute to construction in 2009, first-class use in 2010, an ODI debut in 2013 and the arrival of T20I and Test cricket.
JSCA Stadium’s story begins before the Ranchi ground itself. Jharkhand State Cricket Association records describe decades of cricket administration centred on Jamshedpur, followed by a difficult transition after Bihar’s bifurcation and a push for an independently controlled home.
Official JSCA pages place the association’s formation in Jamshedpur in 1935–36 as the Bihar Cricket Association and credit Tata Steel with supporting the game for many years. After Bihar was divided in 2000, the BCA-to-JSCA transition in 2004 was followed by litigation over recognition and control; The Telegraph reported that the Supreme Court upheld JSCA’s validity in 2008.
In September 2008, Cricinfo reported that JSCA withdrew Keenan Stadium’s India–England ODI hosting rights because Tata Steel had not agreed to an association takeover. Tata Steel said the request remained under consideration while engineers assessed the galleries. JSCA’s president later described the loss of access as an incentive to build the association’s own stadium, whose construction began on 19 June 2009.

The official JSCA president’s account says the Ranchi complex hosted its first first-class match in November 2010, less than eighteen months after construction began. The same account describes a second regulation ground, indoor cricket facility, outdoor practice nets and wider sports amenities, showing that the project was conceived as more than a single match bowl.
The venue’s first international was the third ODI between India and England. England made 155 before India reached 157/3 in 28.1 overs to win by seven wickets. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 77 earned Player of the Match and gave the new ground a high-profile international opening.
Ranchi’s first men’s T20I arrived on 12 February 2016, when India’s 196/6 set up a 69-run win over Sri Lanka. On 16–20 March 2017, the stadium hosted its first Test: Australia made 451, India replied with 603/9 declared, and the drawn match was led by Cheteshwar Pujara’s 202, the Player-of-the-Match innings.
The stadium is in the HEC Colony and Dhurwa area of Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is owned by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association and is also listed as JSCA International Stadium Complex and Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium.
