Greenfield International Stadium history begins with a multi-sport venue built for Kerala’s 35th National Games in 2015. Located at Karyavattom in Thiruvananthapuram, it moved into international cricket after the Kerala Cricket Association arranged to use the stadium in 2016. The timeline later added India’s 390/5 ODI and a 271/5 T20I in January 2026.
The stadium was built for the 35th National Games on land owned by the University of Kerala. Kerala Cricket Association’s later project note described a DBOT development by Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services, a reported cost of ₹240 crore and a published capacity of 55,000.
Kerala Cricket Association announced a planned agreement with Karyavattom Sports Facilities Ltd to use the venue for international matches allotted to the state association. This shifted the Sports Hub from a National Games landmark towards a regular cricket venue.
Rain and a wet ground reduced the venue’s first international to eight overs per side. India made 67/5, restricted New Zealand to 61/6 and won by six runs, giving Thiruvananthapuram a dramatic international debut.
West Indies were dismissed for 104 in the stadium’s first ODI. India reached 105/1 in 14.5 overs and won by nine wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja’s 4/34 earned the Player of the Match award.
On 28 September 2022, South Africa slipped to 9/5 before reaching 106/8; India won the T20I by eight wickets. On 15 January 2023, India posted 390/5 and dismissed Sri Lanka for 73, completing a 317-run victory that was the biggest winning margin in ODI history at the time.
India posted 271/5 against New Zealand, led by Ishan Kishan’s 103 from 43 balls and Suryakumar Yadav’s 63 from 30. New Zealand replied with 225, while Arshdeep Singh’s 5/51 sealed a 46-run India win and the venue’s highest T20I aggregate.
Greenfield International Stadium is located at Karyavattom in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, opposite the University of Kerala campus. The multi-sport venue is also known as The Sports Hub and Trivandrum International Stadium.
