Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium history traces how the Mullanpur project moved from long-term planning and delayed construction to domestic cricket, the IPL and three international formats.
The venue commonly called Mullanpur Cricket Stadium or New PCA Stadium was conceived as a modern Punjab Cricket Association ground outside central Chandigarh. Its story is not one opening date: planning began around 2010, construction followed years later, domestic matches arrived in 2021, and major-event use expanded in distinct stages.
The project was planned around 2010 under former PCA and BCCI president I. S. Bindra. It was intended to give Punjab cricket a larger modern site at Mullanpur, away from the tighter residential setting around the older PCA ground in Mohali.
Building work began in 2017. A planned 2020 opening was delayed, with the COVID-19 pandemic among the factors reported at the time. Competitive use began in 2021, and the ground hosted Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy cricket before its IPL debut.
Punjab Kings met Delhi Capitals in the first IPL fixture at the venue. The match established Mullanpur as Punjab Kings’ new home base and brought the stadium’s open-air three-tier bowl, six floodlight towers and modern player facilities to a national audience.
The stadium’s first international was a women’s ODI on 14 September 2025, when Australia Women chased India Women’s 281/7 and won by eight wickets. Men’s international cricket followed on 11 December: South Africa made 213/4 and beat India by 51 runs in a T20I.
India’s Test against Afghanistan added the longest format to the ground’s record. India declared on 564/8, dismissed Afghanistan for 152 and 112, and won by an innings and 300 runs. Manav Suthar was Player of the Match after taking 6/33 and 1/29.
The stadium is at Tira, Mullanpur, in the New Chandigarh planning area of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Punjab 140901. It is owned by the Punjab Cricket Association and is also identified in searches as PCA International Cricket Stadium New Chandigarh and Mullanpur Cricket Stadium.
