A government order renamed Ekana International Cricket Stadium after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 5 November 2018. The formal inauguration and first men’s international followed on 6 November, when India made 195/2 and beat West Indies by 71 runs; Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 111.
The venue staged five matches during the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup and continued hosting major league cricket. Ekana Stadium boundary length is not one permanent figure: event reporting for the 2025 WPL described approximately 63–65 metres square and 68–70 metres straight.
