VCA Stadium, Nagpur, History
The story of Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur begins with VCA's decision to build a larger venue outside the older Civil Lines stadium. VCA's official history explains the association's earlier roots separately from the new ground's opening in 2008.
01REGIONAL ROOTS
Cricket Before the Jamtha Stadium
VCA traces regional cricket to a reported 1856 match between British Army regiments at Kamptee. The Officers Cricket Club was formed in Nagpur in 1906, establishing the early cricket-ground tradition that later developed at Civil Lines.
These dates describe regional and association history. They are not establishment dates for the Jamtha stadium.

How the Association Got Its Name
The C.P. & Berar Cricket Association was formed on 15 August 1934. VCA's history records the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association name after Independence in 1947 and the Vidarbha Cricket Association name after states reorganisation in 1956.
032004
The Decision to Build at Jamtha
VCA describes growing parking pressure and the need for a larger international-standard venue as reasons for the new stadium. Under then-president Shashank Manohar, the association decided in 2004 to build at Jamtha.
The official history places the Jamtha stadium 16 kilometres from the Civil Lines stadium. This is not an airport or railway-station distance.
042008
Jamtha's First International Test
India and Australia played the stadium's first international Test in 2008. From that point, Jamtha became the modern international venue associated with the VCA Stadium name.

Jamtha and Civil Lines Are Not the Same Ground
The older Civil Lines ground has its own cricket history. Records on this page refer to the modern Jamtha venue; older Nagpur performances should not be transferred here merely because a scorecard uses the VCA name.
